7 Things You Didn't Know About Pixy Stix
Remember Pixy Stix? These are one of the most iconic retro candies out there! Here are seven things you might not know about this nostalgic treat.
1. They started out as a drink mix
In the 1930s, a company called Fruzola invented a drink mix to make water taste better to kids. But they soon learned that the kids were just eating the powder plain... and thus Pixy Stix were! At the time, the candy was called Lik -M -Aid.
2. They originally came with a spoon
So you could eat the delicious powder by the spoonful! How awesome is that?
3. They didn't become popular until 1952
Although it was invented in the 1930s, the candy as we know it today wasn't introduced until 1952. That's when Fruzola came up with the name Pixy Stix, and introduced its familiar tube-shaped packaging.
4. There are four regular flavors of Pixy Stix (and some special ones)
The four most common flavors are: Maui Punch (blue), Grape, Cherry and Orange. But you can also find some other cool flavors...like Pineapple, Mango Lime, and Cucumber Watermelon!
5. Pixy Stix and Fun Dip are basically the same thing
Fun Dip was also invented by Fruzola. You know the delicious powder inside a Fun Dip package? That's essentially the same stuff that's in Pixy Stix!
6. They were featured in The Breakfast Club
Remember that scene? Allison Reynolds, played by Ally Sheedy, made a sandwich consisting of butter, Captain Crunch cereal, gummy lizards, and a couple Pixy Stix!
7. Blue Pixy Stix are the most popular
So, we don't actually have any real evidence to back this up. But at Life is Sweet -- they always sell out before the other flavors! Interesting, right?
