We’ve put together a list of things you probably don’t know about ice cream.

Some of them may surprise you!

Sweet Facts About Ice Cream

10. The average American eats around 20 pounds of ice cream every year

That’s a lot of ice cream! But this statistic is actually not too surprising. Think of how many occasions call for a frozen treat.

Happy? Sad? Celebrating? Eat ice cream!

9. The #1 most popular ice cream flavor is Vanilla

In the countries that love ice cream the most (including the U.S.), Vanilla is the most popular flavor.

Some people think it’s boring... but, clearly, others think it’s an irreplaceable classic.

8. The world’s largest ice cream sundae weighed 54,917 pounds

That’s huge! The sundae was made in Canada in 1988.

You can’t make a sundae quite that big at Life is Sweet...but you CAN add as many toppings as you can fit.

7. It's the #1 food astronauts miss

If you were in space, what foods would you miss?

According to NASA, the food that astronauts miss the most is ice cream. And can you blame them? Imagine going months––or years!––without ice cream...

6. It takes 50 licks to finish an ice cream cone

How many licks does it take to get to the center of an ice cream cone?

Apparently, it's 50! On average, anyway.

But I bet you could finish one way quicker than that...

5. The first ice cream cone was an accident

It happened at the World's Fair in 1903. An ice cream maker ran out of bowls... so he improvised!

A nearby vendor was selling waffles...and he rolled them in cones to help. We're glad he did!

4. Ice cream used to be made in all kinds of weird flavors

In the 19th century, chefs would create ice cream in flavors like asparagus, oyster and parmesan.

Would you try it?

3. Grape ice cream is impossible

Have you ever wondered why there's no grape flavored ice cream out there?

It's because there is a compound in grapes that makes them almost impossible to cream-ify––it just wouldn't have the right texture. Who knew?

2. Nine percent of the milk produced in the U.S is used to make ice cream

That doesn't seem like a big number...but it is! Hundreds of millions of gallons of ice cream are produced ever year.

1. There is no limit to what you can do with ice cream...

Have you ever met someone who adds some seriously weird things to their ice cream? Pickles, avocado, bacon bits...

We love ice cream because we can make it ours. There are limitless ways to customize it––and maybe that's why it's one of the world's most popular treats!

Did all this talk about ice cream make you wish you had some? Go and get it–– we won't judge 😉
